GIVING BACK

The firm’s attorneys genuinely care about their community and recognize the importance of giving back to the community and the legal profession. Our attorneys’ community involvement is significant and varied, and includes work in the public sector, providing pro bono legal services on behalf of individuals and non-profit organizations, serving on committees within the Florida Bar and on the Eleventh Circuit’s Judicial Nominating Commission, and dedicating hours of service to several other community organizations.

Several of the firm’s attorneys spent years in the public sector where they performed a valuable public service. The firm’s attorneys have served as law clerks for federal and state court judges, as federal prosecutors with the United States Department of Justice, and as public defenders with the State of Florida.

The firm’s attorneys are also committed to donating their time to provide pro bono legal services to individuals and non-profit organizations. The attorneys provide pro bono legal services to individuals every year. Their pro bono work on behalf of non- profit organizations includes such work as participating in the drafting of legal briefs on behalf of the Cuban American Bar Association in the following matters: Petition for Immediate Relief Against Human Rights Violations Committed by the Republic of Cuba, which was filed with the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States; and an Amicus Curiae Brief filed with the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Support of the United States of America in the case of United States of America v. Guerrero, et al., (the “Cuban Spy Case”). The firm’s attorneys are also members of the CABA on Cuba Committee, which is working on drafting laws critical to Cuba’s eventual return to democracy and the rule of law.

In an effort to give back to their profession as well as to their community, our attorneys volunteer their time to serve on various committees within the Florida Bar, as adjunct law professors, and with committees involved with the administration of justice in Florida. For example, one of the firm’s attorneys serves as a commissioner on the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Eleventh Circuit Court for Miami-Dade County, Florida. Our attorneys have also served as adjunct law professors with the LLM program at the University of Miami Law School, and are serving on the following committees within the Florida Bar: Civil Procedure Rules Committee (and its Federal Rules Standing Committee); Law Related Education Committee; and the International Litigation and Arbitration Committee of the International Law Section of the Florida Bar.

The firm’s attorneys also volunteer their time to work with various other community organizations such as the Junior League of Miami, where they are involved with the All Aboard Even Start Family Literacy Program, the Miami-Dade County Foster Care Review Panel, where they serve as panelists supervising foster care placements, and with Hands on Miami, a yearly outreach event coordinated through the United Way.
